Hi! I’m Kyle, the Penny Hoarder.

I've got some creative ways to fix your budget.

Get Paid to Try Cell Phone Apps
Cell Phone Apps

Heck, I’ll admit it. Last night I wasted a full hour trying to beat all of the levels on Angry Birds. I’m not sure how it happened, but those little birds are so addictive and before I knew it, an hour had passed! LOL!

What made the experience even more ridiculous is that I’ve had a big crack in my iPhone for the last 3 months, so playing the game is extra challenging. Every time I tried to fling the little bird, my finger would get stuck in the glass crack. I’ve been meaning to get a new phone and send the old one into one of those get cash for used cell phones sites, but I’m trying to be good and save money for Christmas.

Anyhow, after I finished playing Angry Birds, I started surfing around the App store and found a cool new app that pays you to try other cell phone apps. I had to share…

AppRewards.com -

AppRewards is a relatively new app for the iPhone that pays you to download, try, and rate new cell phone apps.

The interface is pretty easy to use and once you’ve downloaded the app, you’ll see that there are hundreds of other apps that you can get paid for trying.

Click on an app and it will give you a short list of instructions that your need to follow in order to get paid. Sometimes the sponsor will require you to watch a short video about their app, and others ask that you take a quick survey (3 or 4 questions).

After you’ve completed the instructions, AppRewards will reward you with points that can be redeemed for Paypal and gift cards.

For example, you can download the Mint.com app and earn 15 points. Leave a quick rating for the New York Times App and earn another 15 points.

How Much Can You Make?

Well, like most survey sites – don’t expect to get rich doing this. If you convert the points to cash, you’ll only be getting paid around 5 cents for every app that you try. At that rate it might take awhile before you reach the minimum $5 needed to cash out.

There are a couple of other ways to boost your point total. Referring a friend earns you 200 points (equivalent to 54 cents). There are also a few paid apps that you can download for big points. That obviously defeats the purpose of getting paid to download apps, but if you are already going to pay for a particular app, this might be a nice way to offset your cost. For example, there is a grocery list app selling for 99 cents, but AppRewards will give you 870 points for trying it.

What do you think Penny Hoarders? Would you try AppRewards?
And will someone else admit to wasting a whole evening playing Angry Birds?

I don’t know where you find out about all of this but it sure fascinates me. This is a cool idea. Maybe once more people do it, the rate will go up. Or maybe they will pay different rates for different types of apps. Either way it is something to keep an eye on.

Paul, once upon a time I was crazy about angry bird. Then my wife removed the app. Now I have a time to write blogs :)

That is a some pretty good info. I’ve made a few a bucks with Checkpoints before but its really hard to get points. It cost a little more points than other rewards app to redeem. Here is an updated list of the best and latest apps that give rewards though. Come by and check it out. http://www.squidoo.com/top-10-ipad-and-iphone-apps-that-pay-rewards
