Freelance writing job

Thank you for your interest in contributing to The Penny Hoarder!

We’re looking for freelance writers who have fun, unique ideas for earning or saving money. We’d love to hear your personal experience, especially if you can share detailed numbers, strategies, and advice.

Please review the following guidelines before filling out the pitch form below.

What are We Looking for in a Pitch?

We’re seeking evergreen articles, at least 700-900 words.

Read other Penny Hoarder posts. Get a feel for the tone of the site. We’re informative, relaxed and excited about earning — and saving — money. Make sure we haven’t already covered the topic you’re pitching. Use our site search to check.

Focus on being useful. How will your post help readers save, earn or grow their money? We like practical, actionable advice that our readers can put to use in their own lives. Share detailed instructions to help someone else follow in your footsteps, and interview those who have advice to share.

Types of Posts We Want From You:

Success Stories and Unique Job Ideas:

These are typically about people who started their own business (Examples: 1, 2, 3), have unique jobs, had success saving (Examples: 1, 2, 3), or other human interest stories. These rely heavily on conducting an interview with the subjects who can tell their story and give our readers advice on finding success. Keep in mind that we will need to be able to get good photos of your interview subject. Please include how you would like to approach photos for your pitch.

Eating/Travel/Life on a Budget:

These posts are advice guides that can include food taste tests for the best buys, budget wedding tips, and how to save everywhere from the grocery to a Hawaiian cruise. These typically need to be firsthand experiences or interviews with those who have tried them. More examples: ( 1, 2, 3, 4)

Smart Money Guides:

These are specifically geared to take the reader through a step-by-step process, or through a  list of methods to achieve a specific goal. These can be on specific ways to make money (Examples: 1, 2, 3), save money (Examples: 1, 2) or how to handle debt.

These are typically well-supported with short quotes from experts and links to sources. They can be specific to one person with advice for the reader (How He Did it and How You Can To) or a general guide (5 Ways to...)
