12 Really Strange (but Effective) Ways to Make Money in Texas
The state of Texas is big — and so are the ambitions of its residents. One ambition that tops many of our Texas readers’ lists?
The ability to work from home.
So we thought we’d help out by rounding up 12 work-from-home jobs just for Texas residents.
On the list are both full-time jobs and part-time gigs — none of which require a college degree.
Keep reading to learn about our favorite work-from-home opportunities in Texas in 2016.
1. Watch Cooking Shows
I might be a tiny bit addicted to cooking shows, which is ironic since the take-out local Chinese restaurant knows me by name. I don’t actually use any of the cooking tricks I see on TV, but there’s something relaxing about watching someone else do the cooking, even if it includes Gordon Ramsay yelling in the background.
That’s why I was pretty excited to find this hack: Swagbucks will pay you simply to watch cooking shows through their video channel. It’s free to sign up and you’ll get a $5 bonus when you watch your first video.
You’re not going to get rich doing this, but you can earn an extra $50/month or so.
2. Live Out Your Interior Designer Dreams
If you spend your days watching HGTV and dreaming of being an interior designer, listen up. Artistic Window Designs needs an assistant to help with marketing and other administrative tasks.
You must live in the San Antonio area and be able to drive to meetings with clients. Though you can work from home, your schedule will vary each week.

3. This Company Will Pay You For Your Thoughts On Hillary Clinton
What do you think of Donald Trump? Are you going to vote in the 2016 election? Do you think Hillary Clinton lied about Benghazi?
If you’re a political nerd — or even if you’re not — you can make extra money by registering for Valued Opinions, which is one of the country’s biggest polling companies.
The polls are pretty fun and I can usually earn about $50/month with them.
4. Get Paid to Download Apps
Lots of companies, including Google, will pay you to install their apps on your cell phone. And there’s more: They’ll also pay you for every month you keep those apps installed.
Why? Because the apps collect data from your cell phone, which companies use to better understand web and mobile usage — gathering information such as what times of day people browse, how long they stay on websites and use apps, and what types of sites and apps are popular (or not).
Here are a few of our favorite companies that will pay you to download their apps:
– Media Insiders Panel – If you’re male or 44 years of age or older, this company will pay you $5 a month to keep their app on your phone. Plus, you can install it on up to 3 devices, making your total possible earnings up to $200 a year.

6. Set Your Own Schedule as a Transcriptionist
If you want a work-at-home job that doesn’t need sales experience or a college degree, transcription might be a good fit. This gig requires listening to audio files and typing out what you hear; you can work as little or as much as you want.
Though the work can be repetitive (think: listening to the same audio files over and over), it pays well and offers a ton of flexibility.
