How to Save Money By Bundling Your Services

There are many ways to be a Penny Hoarder:  find free money with bank and credit card offers, find ways to make extra money on the side, and find ways to save money.  The latter may not get discussed as much as the other two options, but it's still important. Saving money without diminishing the quality of your lifestyle can help you get ahead effortlessly.

One of my favorite ways to save money is to bundle services because when you bundle, companies usually give you a discount, and hey, who can argue with keeping more money in your pocket?  Here are a few of my favorite services to bundle:

Cable TV/Internet/Phone Bundles

A perfect bundle is cable tv/internet/phone.  Not only do you save yourself time by not having to pay three different providers every month, but you also usually save money.  There are so many choices from sky packages for digital television to satellite providers.  I recommend searching the Internet first before calling the providers so you can find the best package for your needs and negotiate from there.

Insurance Bundles

You likely have homeowner's or rental insurance as well as car insurance.  If you get these policies through the same company, you can save 10% or more on each policy!  Insurance companies are notorious for wildly varying rates, so make sure you call around and ask for the same coverage from each company to see which one offers the best deal.  Don't forget to tell them that you're searching for two insurance policies and want to bundle.

One note, you can often get life insurance from the same company that offers your homeowner's and car insurance, but I've found it's often cheaper to get life insurance through a separate company.  This seems to be one area where bundling actually may cost more.

Cell Phone Bundles

If you get cell phones for your entire family from the same provider and get on the same plan, you can save quite a bit of money and get some nice features such as unlimited texting, which is great if you or your teen texts constantly.

Once you have your bundles in place, congratulate yourself because you just saved a bundle of money.  However, there's no rest for the weary.  After a year or so, make sure to call around and see if you're still getting the best rate.  If not, don't be afraid to change companies and move to a more cost effective company.  You may also be able to then take advantage of new customer bundles from other companies.

Good luck Penny Hoarders!
