4 Simple Businesses You Can Start at Home
Stay at home parents have made the decision to step back from their full-time or part-time job to raise their families. While a stay at home parent's day is filled with caring for children, cooking, cleaning and driving children to and from events, there are still moments in a stay at home parents day when they can make money should they choose to. In the evenings after the children are in bed and during nap time are two places where they can get a large chunk of time or during the day if their children are in school.
Work at home jobs offer flexibility as well as income potential, and the parent can work when they have the time. If life gets too busy, they can easily scale back.
If you are looking for a way to make money from home, here are some ways to get started today:
1. Enter online sweepstakes. I know, you are probably wondering how you can make money entering sweepstakes. Sure, you may win a prize or two, but how can that really help the family finances?
Some people spend an hour or two a day entering sweepstakes, and that time can really pay off. If you think you can't make money sweeping, consider this story. According to CNN, “Wendy Limauge has been entering sweepstakes since 1993 and teaching others to win through her website, Sweeties Sweeps, since 2002. Though winning sweepstakes rarely provides actual cash, her winnings have consistently provided her and her family with 200 to 300 prizes a year, many of them large items she and her husband couldn't afford on their incomes alone.” You can use those winning items yourself or sell them for cash.
2. Sell your garden produce. If you love to garden, you can set up a stand at the end of your driveway and sell your extra produce. You may have good luck selling the produce on Craigslist, especially if it is organic and you can sell it cheaper than the stores.
Even if you don't want to sell your produce, you can use it to barter with your neighbors and save on groceries. One blogger feeds her family of 4 for just $100 a month, in part because she barters with her neighbors. She offers organic, homegrown produce, and her neighbors trade items they have bought at the grocery store that aren't in her $100 a month budget.
3. Offer after school care. If you live in an area where many kids have to be watched after school until about 6 p.m. because their parents work, you could have a side job doing this. You would likely be responsible for driving kids to their extracurricular activities such as music practice or sports practice. You would also need to help them with homework. However, if you are already home with your own children, this could be a good way to make money.
4. Become a money manager. Alright, so this one takes a little more skill and is clearly a lot more risky. However, if you've got a knack for picking stocks and are willing to bet some cash, consider stock trading on the side.
If you would like to make money as a stay at home parent, there are plenty of ways to do so. Just pick a job that is best suited to what you enjoy. Not only will you have fun, but you will be able to bring in a little money, too.
