June Class Action Settlements Involve SmileDirectClub, Hyundai, Audi, PEMCO and More

Class action settlements with Hy-Vee, Audi, SmileDirectClub, Hyundai and other companies have claim-filing deadlines in June.

Many of these settlements are open to consumers throughout the United States. See if you qualify and look at deadline dates carefully. The deadline for action by current and former residents of properties controlled, owned or managed by Hispanic Housing Development Corp. is in early June.

Major Class-Action Settlements for June 2021

SmileDirectClub Unwanted Texts $11.5M Class Action Settlement

U.S. consumers who received marketing or advertising text messages from SmileDirectClub between July 7, 2016, and Feb. 4, 2021, may be eligible to claim compensation. Details of settlement. 

According to the plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit, the text messages violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) because the company sent them without consent by using an automatic dialing system.

Class Members who file a valid claim form are expected to receive a payment of $10.

Consumers have until June 28, 2021, to make a claim.

JELD-WEN & Masonite Interior Molded Doors $19.5M Antitrust Class Action Settlement

If you purchased a JELD-WEN or Masonite interior molded door from a third-party reseller, such as The Home Depot, between March 1, 2014, and Sept. 4, 2020, for your own use, you may be able to collect some cash. Details of settlement.

The companies allegedly worked to inflate the price of interior molded doors.

To be eligible, Class Members must have lived in or had a business in one of the following states: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia or Wisconsin.

Class Members who file a valid claim form are expected to receive at least $25.

File your claim by June 25, 2021.

HHDC Security Deposit $1.5M Class Action Settlement

Some current and former residents of properties controlled, owned or managed by Hispanic Housing Development Corp. (HHDC) may benefit from a $1.5 million class action settlement. Details of settlement. 

According to a class action lawsuit, HHDC allegedly failed to pay interest on security deposits, failed to tell residents in their lease agreements at what financial institution the deposit money was being held, and failed to provide residents with the Residential Landlord and Tenant Ordinance (RLTO) summary and security deposit law summary upon lease and renewal.

The settlement agreement establishes three Subclasses based on different property groups.

While each Class Member’s final payment amount is not yet known, it is estimated to be between $300 and $400.

Hy-Vee Data Breach Class Action Settlement — Claim Up to $5K

Certain Hy-Vee customers are eligible to claim up to $5,000 as part of a class action settlement over a data breach that occurred in 2018 and 2019. Details of settlement.

A class action lawsuit had alleged the data breach injured more than 5 million Hy-Vee customers because it left them vulnerable to possible identity theft and other related risks.

Any consumer in the  who used a payment card to make a purchase at one of the affected Hy-Vee point-of-sale devices, such as at fuel pumps, drive-thru coffee shops and restaurants, between Dec. 14, 2018, and Aug. 2, 2019, at one of the covered locations may be eligible to file a claim.

Claim forms are due by June 22, 2021.

Hyundai Piston Engine Settlement Provides Extended Warranties, Reimbursement for Consumers

Owners and lessees of certain Hyundai models may be eligible to claim a reimbursement or warranty extension. Details of settlement.

Class Members who file valid claims may be eligible to claim warranty extensions, reimbursement for past repairs, and reimbursement for towing, car rentals and other expenses.

The following models equipped with a 1.8L Nu engine are covered under the terms of the settlement :

  • Hyundai Elantra (model years 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016)
  • Hyundai Elantra GT (model year 2013)
  • Hyundai Elantra Coupe (model year 2013)

The deadline to file a claim is June 28, 2021.

PEMCO Insurance $14.1M Total Loss Class Action Settlement

PEMCO Insurance policyholders who were paid for the total loss of their vehicle may be eligible to make a claim in a $14.1 million class action settlement. Details of settlement. 

Anyone insured under a PEMCO auto policy issued in Washington state who was paid by PEMCO for the total loss of their own vehicle(s) under one of PEMCO’s first party coverages for a loss occurring between May 17, 2012, and April 30, 2020, and PEMCO used an estimate that contained a “typical negotiation” deduction as part of the process in valuing their vehicle is considered a Class Member.

The amount of each claimant’s award will vary, but will be up to the amount of the “typical negotiation” deduction, minus attorneys’ fees and other costs. Not everyone who submits a claim form will be determined to be eligible for a payment.

Claim forms must be submitted by June 17, 2021

Physician Compassionate Care Unwanted Texts Class Action Settlement

Did you receive unwanted texts from Physician Compassionate Care or DocMJ? If so, you may be able to claim some money. Details of settlement.

The settlement is open to anyone in the United States who received a text message from or on behalf of Physician Compassionate Care on their cell phone from June 14, 2015, through the date of final approval of the settlement using the texting platform provided by Twilio to send messages like the one the plaintiff received.

Each Class Member who files a valid claim form will receive up to $18, less the cost of notice and administration and other expenses.

File your claim by June 29, 2021.

Manna Pro Rabbit Food $62.5K Class Action Settlement

California Manna Pro customers may be able to take advantage of a $62,500 class action settlement — no proof of purchase required. Details of settlement.

Plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit had alleged Manna Pro marketed and sold the product as containing no corn; however, certain bags allegedly were found to contain the ingredient, which the plaintiffs say constitutes a violation of California law.

Anyone who bought a bag of Select Series Pro Formula Rabbit Food while residing in California between Jan. 30, 2014, and May 14, 2019, is eligible to make a claim.

Claim forms are due by June 9, 2021.

Creation Entertainment $950K Data Breach Class Action Settlement

Consumers whose personal information may have been compromised during a 2018 data breach at Creation Entertainment may be eligible to claim a share in a $950,000 settlement. Details of settlement. 

The Class is made up of all individuals living in the United States who used a debit or credit card to make a purchase from Creation Entertainment and whose personal Information was accessed or compromised by unauthorized individuals during the data breach.

Each Class Member is eligible for a payment of $200 regardless of whether any unauthorized charges appeared on their card.

Additionally, Class Members may seek a reimbursement of up to $10,000 if they experienced unauthorized charges.

The claim form deadline is June 22, 2021.

Audi Electric Coolant Pump Class Action Settlement

Owners and lessees of certain Audi models may be eligible to benefit from a class action settlement agreement with the automaker. Details of settlement. 

Anyone who purchased or leased one of the following vehicles imported and distributed by Volkswagen Group of America Inc. for sale or lease in the United States and Puerto Rico is considered part of the Class:

  • Certain 2013-2016 model year Audi A4 Sedans & Allroads
  • Certain 2013-2017 model year Audi A5 Sedans & Cabriolets
  • Certain 2013-2017 model year Audi Q5s
  • Certain 2012-2015 model year Audi A6s

Consumers can check the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) lookup tool on the settlement website to determine whether the settlement covers their vehicle.

Individual payments will vary, but Class Members may file claim forms to seek reimbursement of certain out-of-pocket expenses.

Other benefits, such as a free warranty extension, are available without the Class Member needing to file a claim.

Claim forms must be submitted by June 26, 2021.
