Chipotle Is Hiring 10,000 New Workers as Company Expands Pickup Windows
Fast-casual food chain Chipotle is hiring thousands of new workers in the coming months as the company expands a new concept across the country: drive-thru pickup lanes.
The company announced on June 15 that it built its 100th “Chipotlane,” a new drive-thru pickup window for online orders, and that it plans to hire up to 10,000 workers to help operate the new windows.
“Customers want convenience and appreciate the ability to personally retrieve their orders without leaving their car,” said Scott Boatwright, Chief Restaurant Officer, in the announcement. “With a dedicated team and kitchen devoted to digital orders, we need to continue to grow our workforce to support the increasing demand, especially in locations featuring a Chipotlane.”
Hourly and salaried positions are available.

In addition to the 100 Chipotlanes already in place, the company says it’s planning to build more than 100 new restaurants by the end of the year, with 60% of them featuring a pickup window.
As a whole, the restaurant industry has been rocked by the economic effects of the coronavirus. Stay-at-home orders and dining restrictions have all but crippled traditional restaurants, which would typically be hiring en masse during the summer months.
Despite those setbacks, Chipotle has been weathering the pandemic reasonably well. The company has seen an 80% uptick in online orders lately, and the push for digital-order pickup windows is evidence of the company fully embracing the trend.
To entice new workers, the burrito chain has been experimenting with new perks and benefits:
- 100% tuition coverage for select degrees and universities through a partnership with Guild Education.
- Tuition reimbursement of up to $5,250 for schools and degrees outside that partnership.
- Paid parental leave and, for senior-level employees, unlimited PTO.
- Two weeks of sick pay for any worker who contracts the coronavirus.
- Mobile-phone based health care program available to all workers.
- 10% boost in pay and additional bonuses for restaurant workers.
The initiative to recruit 10,000 workers is a doubling-down of a hiring program launched in May called “We are open. We are growing. We are hiring,” which resulted in an estimated 8,500 new employees.
