Get Paid to Go on a Scavenger Hunt Around Town
I have fond memories of Easter growing up. My grandparents owned several acres of land and every year they would hide more than 100 plastic easter eggs for my sister and I to find.
I’m not sure I knew what the holiday was actually for – all I knew was that there was money and candy hidden in those eggs and I was on a mission to find them. Who doesn’t love the thrill of a scavenger hunt, right?
Well, a new company called Shopkick has taken the idea of a scavenger hunt to all new level. That’s because their cell phone app will literally pay you to run around town on an all out treasure hunt. The app works by rewarding you with points for completing tasks on your scavenger hunt to-do list and then later letting you redeem your points for gift certificates.
Walk into the local Best Buy and earn 50 points. Find the GPS device that is on sale at Best Buy, scan it with your phone and earn another 25 points. Run down to the American Eagle next door and earn another 25 points.
The Shopkick app is available on both iPhone and Android devices.
Claiming Your Cash
The app received some criticism when it was first released that the rewards took too long to reach. However, it looks like they have since made some changes. In my area the gift certificates start at only 400 points. Considering I can earn up to 250 points just for visiting the Best Buy down the street, it seems like a fair trade.
The app also send bonus offers to your phone when you enter particular stores. The offers are usually discounts and free coupons that can be redeemed by letting the cashier scan the barcode on your phone’s screen.
Make it a Game
In preparation for this post, I was browsing through some of the reviews in the App store today and I found one user who said…
“Me and my husband race (around the mall) to see who gets the most points at the end of the day!”
I love it!
