The perfect lipstick can cost upwards of $40 — but it doesn’t have to.

In fact, many influencers and makeup artists swear by drugstore lipsticks, which may cost as little as a cup of coffee. (Plus, for that price, you don’t have to limit yourself to one color.)

Note: Prices are accurate as of Aug. 6, 2020.

Basile also loves that the lipstick doesn’t come off all day. “And it never dries my lips because it includes a moistening stick on the opposite end,” she says.

E.l.f. Cosmetics Moisturizing Lipstick

Cost: $4 at e.l.f. cosmetics

Best for: Dry lips

Why we like it: One of the major features of this drugstore lipstick is the hidden compartment on the bottom of the tube, which contains a lip balm that matches the color of your lipstick.

“Usually, to apply a light layer, I would line my lips with the lipstick and then use my fingers to dab in the chapstick,” says Madison Battinelli, who offers makeup recommendations and tutorials via TikTok. “The product will mix to create a super moisturizing and lightweight lip color.”

Cost: $8.49 at Target

Best for: Glossy lips that aren’t glittery

Why we like it: It’s packaged like lip gloss but packs a lot of color and shine with no glitter, says Tricia Walters, aka Tricia Brow Whisperer, a mobile makeup artist based in Toronto.

“But it’s equally as flattering as simple gloss: just by color choice, you get a whole new look,” Walters says.

Also, Walters says it never feels sticky and doesn’t get blotchy.
