Need a Ride to the Polls? Lyft and Uber Will Drive You for Free or Cheap

Though millions of voters have already started heading to the polls this election season, those without reliable transportation might find it difficult to get out to make their voices heard.

So Lyft and Uber are stepping up to provide free and discounted rides to the polls through election day, Nov. 3.

Here’s how you can get cheap or free rides to vote.

Lyft: Cheap or Free Rides to Vote

Lyft is providing voters with rides through a number of nonprofit partners, including:

  • League of Women Voters
  • National Federation of the Blind
  • Student Veterans of America
  • National Urban League
  • Voto Latino Foundation

Promo codes will be distributed by Lyft’s partners and can be used for rides to polling locations, including registered dropbox locations if you are in an exclusively vote-by-mail state.

Uber: Discounted Rides to Vote and Free Food

Uber is offering 50% off roundtrip rides to and from the polls (up to $7 each trip), or up to $14 for the two trips. It also applies on bikes and scooters.

And in anticipation of long lines at the polls, Uber Eats is partnering with Pizza to the Polls to send food trucks to 25 cities to give out free food and provide musical entertainment.

Offering transportation discounts on Election Day is not new for ride-hailing apps. Both Lyft and Uber — and the car-sharing company Zipcar — offered free and discounted trips during the 2016 presidential elections.
