Think You Can’t Afford a Smart Phone?
Smart phones are everywhere. You might look at your friend's smart phones with envy and wish that you, too, could get one. You may think a smart phone is out of your financial reach, but you may be surprised. Smart phones are becoming more affordable and having one can actually save you quite a bit of money.
How to Find a Deal on a Smart Phone
Many people who own smart phones are technology junkies. As soon as the latest version comes out, they want to upgrade. If you are just working your way into the smart phone market, you don't necessarily have to have the latest version. Instead, right after a new version comes out, check eBay and Craigslist. You may find people who are anxious to unload their current smart phone to get the newest model.
If you don't want to wait until the latest model comes out, you can always shop online to find a retailer like dialaphone that offers discounted phones. You can get a recent model, but you'll pay less than if you walked into a brick and mortar store.
How a Smart Phone Can Save You Money
You might have put off purchasing a smart phone because you think it will be a financial drain. However, once you own one, you might find the opposite to be true. A smart phone can actually save you money in a variety of ways.
1. Coupons. Some restaurants will offer you coupons on your smart phone. You can redeem these when you stop by to get your lunch on lunch break, for instance. Also, if you like using coupons for your groceries and toiletries, more and more manufactures are using mobile only coupons. Usually these are high value coupons that can save you a significant amount of money.
2. Price comparisons. This is my favorite way to use a smart phone. If you're in a brick and mortar store, for instance, you can check Amazon or another online store to see if they offer the same product at a cheaper price. Or, you may be able to show the clerk at the store you're in a cheaper price at another store so they can offer you a price match. Then, you save yourself the trouble of driving all around town.
3. Gas prices. Speaking of price comparisons, one great way to use your smart phone is to look at gas prices around town. Without going too far out of your way, you can go to a station nearby that has gas for 10 or 15 cents less per gallon. Sure, you're not saving a fortune here, but every little bit of savings over the week can help. Why pay more than you need to?
If you think a smart phone is out of reach financially, keep in mind these strategies for buying one at a discount. Then, start researching all the different ways a smart phone can save you money. Those listed here are just a few of the many ways you can save. Save enough, and the smart phone might even start to pay for itself.
Good luck Penny Hoarders!
