I don’t really care too much for sports in general, but for some reason I’ve fallen in love with fantasy football!
For those of you who don’t know, fantasy football is a virtual competition where you form your own football team and earn points based on how those players do in the real football game. The fantasy football season corresponds with the regular football season, so the leagues are starting to form this month.
Fantasy football can be played as a hobby, but here are a couple of ways you can make extra money doing it…
Free Fantasy Football Contests
There are a number of high profile sites that give out big prizes to the winner of their annual fantasy football contest. It’s free to play and you can join as many leagues as you would like to increase your chances of wining.
CBSsports.com and FireLeague.com are both offering free leagues this year and are giving out cash prizes of $10,000 and $6,000, respectively.
Be a League Manager
Another great way to make money from fantasy football is to host your own league. Gather up 10 or 12 of your buddies and create a free league on a site like ESPN or Yahoo Fantasy. Charge each of your buddies $25 to play. You get to keep $5 as an administration fee from each player and then the rest of the money is given away as a prize to the winner at the end of the season. It’s a quick way to make $50 or $60 for very little work.
Your other option is to recruit your friends to a free league at “Wanna Make a Bet.” Their site is ad-supported, so there are no fees to join and they give back cash prizes based on how many points you score in the season.
Good Luck Penny Hoarders!
Would you be a dear and Stumble this article?

We just did our draft a couple weeks ago. I have to say, we have really gotten into fantasy. It is so much fun. In fact we can’t wait for it to start. Now you tell me I can make money doing it?! How cool is that.
Our draft is on Saturday. I can’t wait! Everyone is coming over to the house with their laptops so we can “smack” talk, eat, and draft at the same time.
All right, I may finally be convinced to learn how to play fantasy football!
Is there fantasy basketball? There are too many players to keep track of in Football.
LOL. Yep, I’m pretty sure they have “fantasy” everything…
It used to annoy the heck out of me when folks at work would spend hours working on and discussing this – I never dreamed they might be in it for the money!
Haha! Yeah, it’s easy to get into. I try to spare my non-fantasy friends from the chatter though.
I’ve thought about playing fantasy football, but I just don’t have the time to keep up with it all.
I think the thing I like about fantasy football is that you can put as much time into as you want. Some weeks I don’t have time to do anything to my team and other weeks I really enjoy looking up all the stats and picking the best possible roster.
