Employers looking to make a hire can be overwhelmed by the amount of hiring websites out there to choose from.

While some have niche focuses, many are so similar it’s difficult to decide where to start.

Two of the most commonly used job-seeking websites hiring managers use to find new employees are CareerBuilder and Glassdoor. We’ll discuss the similarities and differences between the two, as well as how they compare to other options, like ZipRecruiter.

So if you’re an employer looking for a hiring platform, let’s go!

What is CareerBuilder?

CareerBuilder is one of the largest online job search engines, boasting more than 85 million job seekers who are actively searching for new career opportunities on the platform.

Not only is it a go-to source for candidates looking for jobs, it’s also a website dedicated to giving career advice and helping people navigate the job-search process. For example, the website has a section dedicated to discovering someone’s earning potential, as well as sample resumes to help people construct their own and become a stronger candidate.

CareerBuilder has 85 million resumes on file and sees about 8.5 million unique users every month.

CareerBuilder for Employers

CareerBuilder stands out to employers for a few reasons, some of which include their breadth of custom tools. They combine analytics, third-party software integration and multiple payment options to make finding a qualified candidate as simple as possible.

Whether your company is large or small, you can build your own package based on how many jobs and resume searches you want each month — or select one of their full-service packages.

CareerBuilder’s resume database tops 85 million and sees about 8.5 million active users each month. Within those resumes, you can access someone’s social profiles. Plus, you can take advantage of unique features, like third-party applicant tracking systems, automated emails and candidate sourcing.

One add-on, the Source and Screen feature, can be helpful to smaller businesses who need more man-power without actually having to hire another recruiter for their department. It outsources a lot of required tasks, including candidate sourcing and screening.

However, CareerBuilder gives you a finite number of resume views a month. If you need unlimited resume views, try a website like ZipRecrutier to help you find the best candidates.

What is Glassdoor?

Glassdoor goes beyond the typical job board and features employer branding solutions for companies in the hiring process and gives job seekers the ability to research company reviews before applying to the jobs posted.

In addition to seeing job postings, job seekers can also read more about potential companies, including their benefits and salary information. Employers can post photos of the office and from events, too, to give potential candidates a better understanding of what the company culture is like.

A particularly unique feature of Glassdoor is that former and existing employees (as well as people who have only interviewed with them) can leave employee reviews for other candidates to see. Pros, cons, feedback on the interview process and what can be done to improve all help job seekers get a more in depth look into the company.

As for size, there are 50 million unique monthly users on Glassdoor, about 41 million more than CareerBuilder.

Glassdoor for Employers

When looking to hire for more niche roles, Glassdoor is a great solution for employers looking to showcase their business and company culture to a job seeker. The ability to create a brand that job seekers are interested in can be a huge advantage during the recruiting process.

Companies can create a brand page for free, as well as utilize the insights that Glassdoor provides to improve employee and interviewee experiences.

With a paid membership, hiring managers can use premium features on Glassdoor like competitor comparisons, branded advertising to get in front of more qualified candidates, and review analysis.

Because Glassdoor’s main focus isn’t the job search, but instead a branding site for companies, there aren’t as many features for recruiters to utilize as there are on a job site like CareerBuilder or ZipRecruiter. There’s no applicant tracking system, nor can employers conduct a resume search.

To post open positions, Glassdoor utilizes its sister job site Indeed.com for job posts. It’s an extra step to create a job posting, but

Cost Comparison: CareerBuilder vs. Glassdoor

CareerBuilder’s Prices

CareerBuilder’s prices start at $219 for its “Lite” package. It includes one job ad, 500 resume database searches, alerts and custom candidate lists. The prices go up depending on the number of job postings, but the number of resume searches and other features remain the same.

The top tier Pro package is $599 and includes 5 job postings.

There is also the opportunity to build your own packages, which starts at $375/month and includes one job posting and 30 days of resume search access.

Glassdoor’s Prices

Glassdoor doesn’t advertise their prices, though we do know there are two paid plans — Standard and Select.

The Standard plan allows employers to customize their company profile and do a keyword analysis of their company’s reviews. The Select package includes industry benchmark reports and audience targeting insights.

Employers can utilize the seven day free trial and post up to 20 jobs for free on their sister site, Indeed. After that, they’ll have to contact Glassdoor to discuss pricing.

ZipRecruiter’s Prices

Looking for a more affordable option? You can have one reusable job post on ZipRecruiter for as low as $16/day (going up the more features you add on). By being able to swap in a new job post, you aren’t locked into a 30-day and can upload a new opening as soon as the prior one is filled.

You can also try ZipRecruiter for free for four days

Key Differences Between CareerBuilder and Glassdoor

The key difference between Glassdoor and CareerBuilder is that one is focused on branding and outsources job postings to its sister site (Glassdoor) and the other is a more traditional job search engine for job-seekers (CareerBuilder).

If we consider that Glassdoor utilizes its sister site, Indeed.com, it has a significantly larger monthly pool of applicants than CareerBuilder does — almost five times as many. To be able to reach as many potential candidates as possible, Glassdoor should be the first choice.

On the other hand, CareerBuilder has significantly more solutions and add-ons that can simplify the recruitment process and even outsource some of the work to streamline finding your next hire.

Additional Recruiting Platform Options

If you’re comparing CareerBuilder and Glassdoor to decide which job board to use, a third option is ZipRecruiter. It’s one of the top job boards in the world, and can help hiring managers find the right candidates and save time while doing it.

ZipRecruiter makes it easy to recruit top talent without having to flip between two different sites and doesn’t require candidates to sign up for an account — making it easier on everyone.

ZipRecruiter has a free trial for companies, which includes free job postings, then prices start as low as $16 per day for one reusable job post. The features that come with the cost make it worthwhile, if you’re serious about filling your job openings quickly.

Each job posting can be syndicated to more than 100 other job sites, multiplying the number of qualified job seekers that will see your listing. Employers can also conduct a resume search and see potential candidates’ employment history before inviting them to apply to a specific position instead of waiting for future employees to find them.
