Is your bank account taking a major hit with Christmas peeking around the corner?

Yeah. Mine too. I know, I know. I’m totally feeding into the whole consumerism thing, but I can’t stop — nor won’t stop.

If you’re in the same sinking ship as me, go ahead and roll up your sleeves. It’s time to embrace your middle school mentality and start babysitting.

The Best Day To Babysit This Holiday Season

Apparently this Saturday, Dec. 10 is when parents pull on their ugly Christmas sweaters and get jiggy with it.

A new Holiday Hiring Report from Care says this is when babysitters will be most in demand this holiday season. This conclusion came after last year’s babysitting demand spiked on Dec. 12, the Saturday two weeks before Christmas.

It’s no surprise New Year’s Eve and Valentine’s Day follow in popularity.

How Much Can You Make as a Babysitter During the Holiday Season?

I’m stuck on the prices I charged in middle school to babysit (which was rare). Nowadays, babysitters — and pet sitters — can make way more than $8/hour.

Nowadays, holiday babysitters make an average of $14.40/hour.

If you’re willing to sacrifice your New Year’s Eve, average pay on that night is $14.34/hour — a 10% jump from last year.

And because of, well, capitalism, gauge the demand in your area. You might be able to add a surcharge.

Melissa Willets wrote on Parents that she started looking weeks ago for a babysitter for Dec. 10. She’s had no luck.

Here’s How to Earn Extra Money for the Holidays by Babysitting

Start looking for a gig now. Care says babysitting jobs are posted about five days in advance during the holidays. Pet sitting jobs are posted an average of 17 days in advance.

You can go old school and put word out around the neighborhood that you’re available to babysit.

You can also use online platforms such as Sitter City and Care. Depending on your area, you might find something on classic job search sites such as Monster or Indeed.
