Verizon to Fill ‘Nearly 1,000’ Permanent Work-From-Home Jobs in 12 States

Telecommunications giant Verizon is on a virtual hiring spree.

“Verizon is adding 950 new customer service employees that can work remotely permanently,” Verizon spokesperson David Weissmann told The Penny Hoarder. The new positions are available immediately across 12 states.

In recent months, Weissmann explained, Verizon has transitioned about 90% of its workforce to be remote in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

But these new permanently remote positions are part of the company’s longstanding virtual customer service program, which is only available in select states. The virtual positions are open to residents of Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Minnesota, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

On a typical day, remote customer service representatives at Verizon field around 40 calls from customers, handling questions related to Verizon products and services; account and billing information; and technical issues.

Full-time employees are eligible for “day one” benefits, meaning the company’s benefits and perks are available on the first day of employment. Verizon offers health care with coverage for dependents, an employee stock plan, a 401(k) retirement program, paid time off, paid parental leave and more.

Do You Qualify for a Remote Customer Service Job at Verizon?

The foremost requirement for consideration is your location. You’ll need a residence in one of the 12 states mentioned above.

Here’s why some companies have state restrictions for their work-from-home jobs.

Beyond that, you should have a high school diploma or GED and at least one year in a customer service or sales role, according to the job listings. Preferred qualifications include an associate’s degree; specific work experience fielding questions related to billing, sales or product features; and remote work history.

Verizon also requires a dedicated home-office setup including a private workspace with a desk and chair and high-speed internet of at least 25 Mbps. The company will provide a computer, telephone, headset and other technical equipment and software required for the job. Verizon also pays remote reps a $50-per-month stipend to offset the cost of high-speed internet.

How to Apply for Verizon’s Remote Jobs

Verizon has 45 different job applications for remote customer service openings. The listings are nearly identical. The main difference is location. The company requires you to apply to the corresponding listing in your state — and some states may have multiple listings in different cities. We recommend choosing the listing for the location closest to you.

Here’s how to find the right listing:

  1. Visit Verizon’s online job board.

  2. In the “Keyword” field, search for “Remote Customer Service Representative.”

  3. Select a job listing in your state. If multiple listings are in your state, choose the city nearest you.

  4. Complete the online application, which may include a technical assessment test (30 minutes) and a recorded video interview (30 minutes).

Once you’ve submitted your materials, sit tight for a Verizon recruiter to reach out to you with further information. If you land the job, you’ll then complete a virtual training program that lasts up to 12 weeks before transitioning to normal customer service duties.
