The digital media startup rings in its eighth year with new hires and plans for new products
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (December 11, 2018) The Penny Hoarder celebrates its eighth anniversary today with more than 100 employees and a continuous growth trajectory. For three years in a row, the Inc. 500/5000 has named The Penny Hoarder as one of the fastest-growing private media companies.
Since its inception in 2010, The Penny Hoarder has produced thousands of articles and multimedia pieces dedicated to educating consumers about effective and interesting ways to make or save money. Last year the company moved into its state-of-the-art office in downtown St. Petersburg, Florida.
“We’re excited about our growth and the future of The Penny Hoarder,” said The Penny Hoarder’s founder and CEO Kyle Taylor. “Moving forward, we are doubling down on our vision to help people stress less about personal finance by creating products that will help make healthy personal finance habits a lifestyle.”
Over the last three months, the company has made several strategic hires in key growth areas.
Ken Lyons joined The Penny Hoarder from the Denver Post, where he led the photo and video department for 10-plus years. A Pulitzer Prize-winning editor, Lyons is known throughout the journalism community as a talented photojournalist, team leader and mentor. He led the staff of The Daily Press, Orlando Sentinel, and Denver Post to multiple state, national and international awards. At The Penny Hoarder, Lyons oversees the photography department as the company continues its effort to tell dynamic stories through photography.
The Penny Hoarder also welcomed its first Vice President of Marketing & Brand, Sharon Prill. Most recently, Prill was Chief Marketing Officer for a healthcare technology solutions startup, VitalWare. She is a veteran in media and publishing, having been a regional group publisher, award-winning marketer, and senior digital executive at several media companies including the Seattle Times, Journal Communications and McClatchy. Prill will serve on the company’s executive team and oversee brand strategy, product marketing and corporate communications.
The Penny Hoarder plans to continue to build out its organizational capabilities and to introduce more digital products in 2019.
