As an Ultamate Rewards member, you’ll get a free birthday gift. The exact gift depends on your birthday month. If you’ve spent enough money to be a Platinum ($500) or Diamond ($1,200) member, you get an additional $10 coupon.

Barnes & Noble has two membership tiers: Rewards and Premium. Rewards membership is free to join, but there’s no birthday benefit.
Premium costs $39.99/year to join, but does give you a “special offer” for your birthday. If you load your child’s birthday onto your account, they’ll get a treat from the cafe and a free Paper Source craft on their big day. There are other perks to the paid membership, too, like 10% off most purchases, free drink upgrades at the cafe, and early access to special editions and store events.
