We know the internet is full of ways to make money at home… but they’re not all legitimate.

So we’ve weeded out the scams to share some of the best opportunities with you.

These are all ideas we’ve tried before, so we know they’re legit and that you’ll get paid. And we bet there are some in here you’ve never heard of!

Here are some ways you can make money from home if you live in Canada:

1. Drive With Uber

If you find solace on the road and enjoy finding the best route across town, this is a great way to make money doing it!

As an Uber contractoryou’re responsible for setting your schedule and motivating yourself to work — no one is keeping tabs on you. Your earnings will be calculated by adding a base fare, plus time and distance traveled after your pickup, and Uber charges a service fee (20-35% depending on your city).

If you want to give it a try there are a few things to keep in mind. You must be at least 21 years old, have three years of driving experience, have an in-state driver’s license, a clean driving record and be able to pass a criminal background check.

Finally, your car must be a four-door, seat at least four passengers (excluding the driver), be registered in-state and be covered by in-state insurance.

Here’s a link to sign up to drive with Uber.

2. Fill This Out While You Watch TV

money-in-tv Surveys aren’t our favorite way to make extra money, but if you’re just hanging out watching TV, why not click a few buttons on your phone to put your time to use?

Here’s one of our favorites:

    • Vip Voice – This is a pretty popular site with readers who like the gamification behind taking surveys.

Some of their top-end surveys can pay up to CA$123 (US$95), but those are rare and can take awhile to complete. Most surveys pay a buck or two and only take 10 to 15 minutes, making it pretty easy to earn CA$100 or more per month.

3. Let This Company Know What’s in Your Refrigerator

The Nielsen company — the folks you think of when you see TV ratings — will pay you to scan your groceries each week. Yeah, we were surprised, too.

Once you sign up to become a Nielsen Consumer Panel family, you’ll just need to scan the barcodes on your groceries with the provided scanner and send your data off to Nielsen each week. Pretty easy, eh?

As an active participant, you earn gift points which you can redeem for different types of merchandise. You can choose electronics, jewelry, household items and even toys for the kids. The longer you stay on the panel, the more opportunity you have to earn points towards prizes.

Your activity also earns you entries for the panel’s sweepstakes. Prizes include money, vacations and brand new vehicles. This is a great way to make your consumer voice count and be rewarded handsomely for the purchases you’re already making.

4. Earn Up to $80/Hour as a Part-Time Bookkeeper

Does earning CA$80 (US$60) an hour sound appealing? How about the freedom to work remotely while helping others succeed?

Those are the perks of working as a bookkeeper, says Ben Robinson, a certified public accountant and business owner who teaches others to become virtual bookkeepers.

And no, you don’t have to have a CPA to be successful in this business. In fact, all you really need are decent computer skills and a passion for helping business owners tackle real-world problems.

It’s a great opportunity for moms who want to work part-time, millennials who are just out of college and anyone who wants to bring in real money while working from home.

We talked to Robinson about what it takes to become a virtual bookkeeper, as well as tips and advice for making this career track work for you. You can read the full interview here, or check out his website for more information.

A lot of people want to get in better shape, and you’ll have a little extra motivation if you’re getting paid for it!

We’re fans of both HealthyWage and DietBet, two sites that will allow you to place a wager on yourself and earn cash when you successfully lose weight.

7. Clean up Search Engine Mistakes

Search engines use complicated algorithms to determine the results you see. But they don’t always get it right…

They’re actually full of errors, so they need real humans to look at the results and judge them for quality, relevancy and usefulness. That’s where you come in.

You can find search engine evaluator jobs through Lionbridge. You’ll take a qualifying test, and some companies also conduct a phone interview. Once you’re accepted, you can set your own schedule and work as much or little as you want.

8. Work From Home as a Transcriptionist

Transcribing
requires little to no prior experience, and offers flexible hours and workloads.

The work sounds easy: Listen to audio and type what you hear. But it can be repetitive and requires a lot of attention to detail.

But the work is flexible and you can do it from home. Plus, the pay is a pretty good selling point: Earn around CA$20-$32 (US$15-$25) per hour for general transcription, and more if you learn to specialize in the legal or medical fields.

9. Help Others Land the Right Job

Offer to help polish their resume to make it job-search-ready. If you run out of clients in your network, you can also find online resume writing jobs through ResumeEdge and WriterBay. You can earn between $15-$25 per hour.

10. Look for Whale Vomit

How to make extra money

Have you ever heard the word “ambergris”?

If so, you might know it’s a coveted ingredient in most high-end perfumes — and that it’s also known as whale vomit!

Gross, I know. But, get this — if you find some, it’s worth $5,000 per pound!

Ambergris is usually secreted by the whale via fecal matter. However, in the rare event that the mass is too large to pass through the digestive tract, it’s vomited up (and out) by the whale.

These lumps usually float around the ocean — but sometimes come ashore.

In fact, we recently shared a story about a guy who found $60,000 in vomit while walking his dog on the beach one day!

If you’re anxious to start combing the beaches in your area, read more about identification techniques and storied discoveries by visiting Ambergris Expertise & Buying Worldwide.

Bonus: Jump on the Class-Action Bandwagon

If you use a product that’s involved in a class-action lawsuit, a little online legwork could get you a cash payout. The rules of each settlement are different, but in most cases you’ll have to provide proof of purchase or product use, like a serial number or a receipt. Once you fill out your online claim form, you may have to wait a few weeks or months before receiving your payment.

Psst — we regularly post new class-action settlement information, so check in often to make sure you’re not missing a chance to get paid!
