It’s estimated that Americans see, on average, more than 3,000 advertisements everyday. We see them at the grocery store, at the gas station, at work and, of course, on TV.

And with all of those advertisements competing for our attention, businesses have recently had to get creative in how they get their message out. That’s led to companies ditching their blitzy multi-million dollar campaigns for smaller, more grassroots campaigns that seem more personal and less in your face.

One popular way that advertisers are reaching new customers are through personal endorsements. The idea is that us consumers will be more likely to buy an item if a fellow consumers recommends it to us.

That’s led to a new site called ExpoTV, which is actually paying people to record videos of themselves reviewing products/companies. I spent some time checking it out and here’s what I found…

What is ExpoTV.com?

ExpoTV has been around since 2005 and they currently have one of the largest online databases of customer reviews. It differs from other product review sites though, because all of their reviews are videotaped. The idea is that us consumers will be more likely to trust a video review over a written review because we can see the person and are able to more accurately understand their point of view.

The site allows you to review any product that you want, but the high-paying assignments are located in their “Most Wanted” section. You don’t need to censor yourself either – they’re looking for both positive and negative reviews.

You also don’t need to be a Technology genius to make a video for the site. It can easily be done with a webcam or your smartphone camera and the website has some pretty helpful instructions to help you get started.

ExpoTV also has a program called “Tryology”, which if you sign up for, will make you eligible to occasionally receive products in the mail to review. That’s pretty cool because you get the cash for making the review video and you get to keep the product.

How Much Can You Earn?

Like any of the “Get Paid to” sites, you aren’t going to get rich doing this. However, with ExpoTV it doesn’t look like it’s very hard to earn $25 or more in a single afternoon. The program works by rewarding reviewers with points that can later be redeemed for prizes, gift certificates and cash.

To give you an idea of the earning potential, here are a few of the assignments currently available.

– Review a popular, upscale brand of shampoo and earn 1,000 points

– Review a bag of organic dog food and earn 500 points

– Review a brand of laundry detergent and earn 500 points

– Review a bath loofah and earn 1,000 points

Those four videos alone will earn you enough points to request a $25 Visa gift card. It then takes 3-4 weeks to receive your gift card, which is pretty standard for sites like this.

So, are you willing to go on camera for a few bucks? Let me know what you think in the comments below…

Good luck Penny Hoarders!
